GPS Cell Phone

GPS Cell PhoneSocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

The Global Positioning System (GPS) was funded, developed and controlled by the US Department of Defense. Since the late seventies, GPS has become an important aid to navigation around the world. Initially designed for the US military, GPS became publicly available years later and it is now considered an important feature in lots of consumer products.

How does GPS work? Well, basically there are three elements that make everything work: satellites, earth monitoring stations and receivers (ex: cell phone, gps receiver). GPS provides specially coded satellite signals that can be processed in a GPS receiver, enabling the receiver to compute position, velocity and time.

Today, most cell phones are not limited to carry on just a conversation. Features like mp3 player, digital camera and video camera have all become standards in the latest cell phone models. It is expected that the GPS feature will soon be added to this list, and it will offer the capability of tracking any cell phone user.

The capability of tracking a cell phone user becomes important in emergency situations, like a car accident, thru the use of 911 emergency phone call, where every minute may be a matter of life or death. In situation like this, the GPS system may pinpoint the exact location of the road accident, enabling emergency services to be quickly dispatched.

It is important to mention that so far most GPS system in cell phone is restricted to tracking information only. However, one can have navigational capability thru the use of full screen cell phone/PDA combos with map displays and other cellular phone accessories, and third party paid services. If one does not want to sign up for a monthly paid subscription service, he can make use of one-time-paid-only software programs that will enable some of the navigational capabilities.

Although there are many benefits in using GPS cell phones, there are some people who are concerned about the violation of personal privacy. Since the US Congress has not authorized location tracking without actual evidence of wrongdoing, there have been court hearings which have not approved the requests of government agencies in obtaining the cell phone GPS tracking information for suspects or ordinary citizens.

This privacy matter has made some progress towards the cell phone user`s rights, since there are some laws that have been passed which guarantees that GPS cell phone users will have some protection from the release of the tracking information, with the exception of 911 emergency cell phone calls. It is expected that these laws will guarantee that the benefits of GPS in cell phones will be enjoyed by everyone without infringing anybody`s privacy.

Sometimes when there is a technological innovation, there are also some concerns about privacy or some rights infringements. But no matter how much of a concern this is, it seems that a compromise will always have to be reached, so that new technologies will take their places in everyone`s lives. After all, we all live in a globalized consumer world. By the way, have you already got your GPS cell phone?

Unlocking Your Cell Phone?

Unlocking Your Cell Phone?SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

You have been using your cell phone for months and have been hearing about special features that are on it-which you can not use. Most cellular phones have special features that are available only if you work with your provider to have them unlocked. But, if you do not know what these features are, how do you know whether or not you even want them?

Did you know that you could increase the call quality and decrease battery life by punching in a special code? There are also codes for functions like speed dialing, adding software and information on your phone's model.
Mobile phone unlocking products are divided into On-Site unlocking that requires you to mail in your phone and Remote unlocking products which provides convenient mobile phone unlocking from the your home or office. Now, which do you have? You probably do not know.

Your first step should be to read your owner's manual. Yes, read the manual. None of us ever do this unless something goes wrong. Why would anyone ever want to read the tedious, long winded, legalized terminology? Well, everything you need to know about unlocking your cellular phone may be contained in your manual. Take the time to at least skim through it to see what it does say before you do anything that might damage your phone.

Still not sure what features are hidden and whether or not you can unlock your cellular phone? Ask your teenager or someone else in the age range of 13-25. They will probably know what to do and will be able to do quickly. This is definitely better than spending hours playing around and guessing what to do next. There are web sites that will help you unlock the features in your phone without having to mail it in. They offer you the ability to remotely unlock features from the comfort of your own home. And, they claim it can be done in just a few minutes depending upon the method required.

Some service providers intentionally lock their mobile phone as a means of keeping their customers. These codes can be broken and there are many sites on the internet that can provide more information on them. All cell phones have special hidden features. If you are interested in learning about the features of your cellular phone, you will need to do some internet research to see what is hidden on your phone. There are secret codes that will make your battery last longer, provide international access when you are overseas, to other special features-each unique to the different models.

The purpose of these codes is to allow you to access hidden possibilities of your phone, maybe add functions and find out detailed technical information. So whether you have an Alcatel, Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia, Philips, Siemens or Sony cell phone, you can unlock the codes hidden in your phone.

An item of special note is that you should be careful that you do not violate the contract you signed with your provider. In some instances, they state that 'only they can do this' or that 'your warranty will be invalid if you tamper with the secret hidden features' within your cellular phone.

How To Hijack ‘Every iPhone In The World’

How To Hijack ‘Every iPhone In The World’SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

hack me iphoneOn Thursday, two researchers plan to reveal an unpatched iPhone bug that could virally infect phones via SMS.

If you receive a text message on your iPhone any time after Thursday afternoon containing only a single square character, Charlie Miller would suggest you turn the device off. Quickly.

That small cipher will likely be your only warning that someone has taken advantage of a bug that Miller and his fellow cybersecurity researcher Collin Mulliner plan to publicize Thursday at the Black Hat cybersecurity conference in Las Vegas. Using a flaw they’ve found in the iPhone’s handling of text messages, the researchers say they’ll demonstrate how to send a series of mostly invisible SMS bursts that can give a hacker complete power over any of the smart phone’s functions. That includes dialing the phone, visiting Web sites, turning on the device’s camera and microphone and, most importantly, sending more text messages to further propagate a mass-gadget hijacking.

“This is serious. The only thing you can do to prevent it is turn off your phone,” Miller told Forbes. “Someone could pretty quickly take over every iPhone in the world with this.”

Though Miller and Mulliner say they notified Apple about the vulnerability more than a month ago, the company hasn’t released a patch, and it didn’t respond to Forbes’ repeated calls seeking comment.

The iPhone SMS bug is just one of a series that the researchers plan to reveal in their talk. They say they’ve also found a similar texting bug in Windows Mobile that allows complete remote control of Microsoft-based devices. Another pair of SMS bugs in the iPhone and Google’s Android phones would purportedly allow a hacker to knock a phone off its wireless network for about 10 seconds with a series of text messages. The trick could be repeated again and again to keep the user offline, Miller says. Though Google has patched the Android flaw, this second iPhone bug also remains unpatched, he adds.

The new round of bugs aren’t the first that Miller has dug up in the iPhone’s code. In 2007, he became the first to remotely hijack the iPhone using a flaw in its browser. But while that vulnerability gave the attacker a similar power over the phone’s functions, it required tricking the user into visiting an infected Web site to invisibly download a piece of malicious software. When Miller alerted Apple in July of that year, the company patched the vulnerability before Miller publicized the bug at the Black Hat conference the following month.
